Robin Hood’s Bay Summer School (July/August 09)
Discover the Underwater World at Robin Hood's Bay
The trip introduced children to the practical and fun side of marine biology; they looked at the interactions between marine animals and their environments, as well as considering the human impacts and conservation issues within the coastal area of Whitby. While at Robin Hood's Bay they explored rock pools left by the tide and searched underneath rocks. The children found a variety of fascinating marine life. They also visited the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary, where they were introduced to many strange, beautiful and fascinating creatures from the deep.
Over the three days of the summer school the children filled in a booklet, completed quizzes, played marine games and created their very own underwater collage. Children were able to take their own photographs using a TufCam which helped them create and present a PowerPoint of the findings. After completing the 3 day summer school the children were awarded a Samsung netbook and memory stick.
