Storyphones

Storyphones

StoryPhones is a complete digital audio system using MP3 technology. It is designed by an Early Years teacher for young children to help them develop their language, communication, listening and literacy skills.

These skills are the foundations of learning and it is essential that they are acquired by children in the early stages of their education. StoryPhones ensure that ICT is used throughout the school or nursery environment and is embedded across the curriculum.

The StoryPhones Headsets do not need to be connected to a computer or any other equipment while in use, and children are free to sit wherever they wish to listen. This overcomes one of the major limitations of existing audio systems which tie the listener to a CD or tape player in a particular location. There are no trailing cables to trip over or become tangled. This gives StoryPhones fantastic possibilities for Outdoor Learning.

The Story Phones continue to be successfull within the foundation setting.  The shape and size are perfect for our 3 - 5 year olds, they have quickly learned how to use them.
We have made a comfy seating area and provided books related to the stories, so that children could look at the associated pictures.
Staff have learned how to story CD’s onto the laptops and transfer these onto the head phones.
Finding stories on the internet has proved to be time consuming so any known sites would be helpful.
The head phones could be improved by adding an off switch at the moment they can only be paused.
However overall the story phones have made an excellent addition and Ithoroughly recommend them.

The children loved using the story phones. I used them in my year 1 class as a guided reading activity. You can download your own music or stories to relate to your topic. Each story starts as the child turns them on, the children can also pause the stories so they can listen independently without missing the beginning if some else has already started! Great resource!
