Introduction to Video Editing

Does video editing sound too daunting to tackle in school?

Digital Video Editing is mentioned in the Revised Literacy Framework and is proving to be highly motivating for pupils.

In this introductory session, the pupils will be introduced to the some of the technical vocabulary of film making– zoom, pan, crop, transitions, – and will use a collection of pre-shot stills and videos to create a movie.

If the school has a particular set of photographs it wishes to use as a theme for the day– a school trip, photographs of the local area– then these can be installed on the CLC’s network prior to the visit.

Movies that the pupils create on the day will be placed on a CD and delivered to the school.

Software used for this activity will be one of:

Windows Movie Maker- PC only

Revelation Sight and Sound- PC only

iMovie- Mac only.

The decision as to which piece of software will be used will be made in consultation with the school.

As well as viewing this visit as a rewarding and enjoyable experience for pupils, the day can also be looked upon as CPD for the staff that attend as they will be able to learn about the software and its curriculum applications during the day.
