CompTIA A+ (IT Essentials)
CompTia A+ is an IT industry recognised qualification, that is accepted throughout Europe. A+ certification will give you the skills you need to become a computer technician.
What is A+?
CompTia A+ is an IT industry recognised qualification, that is accepted throughout Europe. A+ certification will give you the skills you need to become a computer technician. Areas covered include: Windows 2000 and Windows XP desktop and server operating systems, troubleshooting, repairing & upgrading PCs, networking and the internet, Basic Health & Safety practice, customer support and others.
The course is a tutor led computer based multimedia course aimed at those who have some computer experience. The course will prepare you for the compulsory A+ Essentials exam and covers all aspects of the optional 220-602, 220-603 and 220-604 exams, although these are not included as part of the course.
Course Duration.
The course is 52 hours in length, consisting of 2 hours per week tutor-led sessions for 26 weeks, plus a further 2-4 hours per week self-study. This includes a short revision period to prepare you for the exams.
What qualifications are needed?
You don’t need any qualifications to take the A+ Course. It is important that you have some computer skills, so we would recommend that you gain some experience on, say, a beginner’s course or an ECDL or CLAIT course.
What will it lead to?
Once you have taken the course, you will be prepared for the proper A+ exams. Once you pass these, you have the requisite skills to become a PC Technician, or you could go on to take the Network+ exam or Cisco certification.
What are the costs?
Tuitions is Free until further notice, but there are some costs involved. There is an administrative fee of £50, and if you wish to take the A+ exams you must book them yourself at a cost of around £100 each. This takes the total cost to around £250.
